The summer fun is just around the corner for the Rutgers Basketball team as the new players are starting to arrive on campus and will be practicing together for the first time later this month. The remaining old guard, those acquired from the transfer portal, and those grabbed right out of high school will start together working as one unit in a few short weeks.
Scarlet Nation broke the news that transfer guard Tyson Acuff from Eastern Michigan, transfer forward PJ Hayes from San diego, and freshman Dylan Grant are already on the banks as of June 4th. The rest of the team is expected to report to Rutgers next week, including the two headliners, Dylan Harper and Ace Bailey. The trail to the tournament is coming into view, Rutgers fans!
Houston, a playmaking wide receiver from St. Thomas More in Oakdale, CT, gained plenty of attention during his recruitment. He held offers from the likes of Penn State, Pitt, Maryland, Minnesota, Duke, and Boston College.
Houston is currently ranked as the No. 6 player in Connecticut and 69th wide receiver in the nation.
Houston is now the third receiver in the Class of 2025 to commit to Rutgers, joining Atlantic City’s Sah’nye Degraffenreidt and Baltimore’s Vernon Allen.
Mike Rice has been part of different staffs over the years but has not been in sole possession of a head coaching job until now.
On Thursday, Rice officially became the head coach of Linden High School in Linden, NJ after being approved at the school district’s Board of Education meeting.
Rice, who was fired by Rutgers in 2013 after multiple reports of verbally and physically abusing players, spent time coaching on the AAU circuit. Rice also spent time as the co-head coach of The Patrick School, where he helped lead the team to the Tournament of Champions title in 2017. He has also served as the Director of Hoop Group headquarters and coach with Team Rio-NJ Shoreshots, where he led McDonald’s All-Americans and NJ natives Bryan Antoine and Scottie Lewis.
